GUIDELINES TO AVOID FOOD POISONING


WHAT IS FOOD POISONING?
Food poisoning is a disease that occur due to eating contaminated food


"A food is say to be contaminated if it contains any substance or material which should not be in it" 


HOW FOOD MAY BE CONTAMINATED?
i. Using raw materials contaminated with germs
ii. Prepare food in a way that is not clean
iii. Using dirty equipment
iv. Serving food in a way that is not clean
v. Store food in a way that is not perfect


FOOD POISONING SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
i. Nausea and vomiting
ii. Twisting and abdominal pain
iii. Cirit-birit
iv. Pain in the abdomen


ONSET OF ILLNESS
2-72 hours after eating or drinking


PERIOD PAIN
A few hours to a few days


HOW TO PREVENT FOOD POISONING
i. Trust your senses - 3 steps to identify damaged or spoiled foods
    a. See - appearance (mucus), different color than usual, see expiry date and the form of food (canned food)
    b. Smell - smells bad and unpleasant 
    c. Taste - have a strange taste (like spoiled food)


ii. Choose the right food
    a. Which is still hot and fresh
    b. Are not exposed (not seized with flies or insects)
    c. Does not smell sour and rotten
    d. Not mucus
    e. Does not change color
    f. Does not taste sour
    g. Food is wrapped with a clean material
    h. Food are taken with clean equipment


iii. Wash hands with soap and clean water
    a. Before handling food
    b. After using the toilet
    c. After play
    d. After holding dirty things or contaminated materials


Quick Action : Report it immediately to the school / authority. Your quick action can prevent food poisoning occurred

MOTHER BREAST MILK IS THE BEST
i. Mother breastfeeding is the right step
ii. Mother breast milk is the best for baby because :
    a. Rich in nutrients needed for babies
    b. Contains antibody that protect babies from infection


EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING
i. Feeding infants with breast milk only without food, water and other beverages, including cooking
ii. Encouraged mothers to breastfeed their babies only breast milk during the first 6 months and continued up to 2 years (or more)
